Closure of OPCW

The OPCW-UN Joint Mission in Syria, established on 16 October 2013, oversaw the timely elimination of the Syrian chemical weapons programme in the safest and most secure manner possible. Its mandate concluded on 30 September 2014, and the OPCW mission in Syria continues to deal with the destruction of chemical weapon production facilities.

Syria submits additional information to the OPCW

At a meeting of the OPCW Executive Council held on 3 October 2013, Director-General Ahmet Üzümcü informed that the OPCW Technical Secretariat has received information from Syria that was additional to the disclosure on its chemical weapons programme which Syria submitted on 21 September. The additional submission is being reviewed by the OPCW. The Director-General is expected to provide an update to OPCW Member States when he addresses the 74th Session of the Executive Council that begins on Tuesday 8 October.
