13 February 2014 - Ms. Sigrid Kaag, the Special Coordinator of the OPCW-UN Joint Mission visited the UK vessel ‘HMS Montrose’ on 13 February. She was briefed by the Danish Commodore of the taskgroup, Commodore Torben Mikkelsen and the UK Commander Captain James Perkins on the ongoing transport of chemicals out of the Syrian Arab Republic.
At the invitation of Captain Malakhovskiy, the Special Coordinator visited the Russian vessel ‘ Petr Velickiy’ and met with the Ambassadors and representatives of the Maritime Group to discuss the ongoing operation to eliminate the Syrian Chemical Weapons Programme. The Ambassadors of the People’s Republic of China, Denmark, the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom and the United States attended the meeting.
The Special Coordinator also had consultations with the Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Ioannis Kasoulides. Ms. Kaag expressed her gratitude for the contribution the Republic of Cyprus provides to the work of the Joint Mission.
